season 4 premier (or, why being real matters)

Ever walk away from a conversation knowing you were completely fake?

Right, same.

So that happened to me, except for with the PODCAST.

I recorded the season four opener in my car two weekends ago. I drove to this gorgeous mountain lake, wrote out all my notes, and did my whole ‘talking-into-the-microphone-in-my-parked-vehicle’ thing.

And then the next day I played it back and realized something… I was being totally fake. Which is hilarious. Because it’s a podcast about authenticity.

But that’s the thing… sometimes we can get into this place of “Yes! I can! I’ll just push a little more and it’ll be forced to fall into place! I can fly!” and we have this kind of crazy look in our eyes that says “Omg I really would just like to put on sweatpants and lay down. But I can’t tell anyone that.”

Aaaaaand that hilarious thing is that the forcing a smile is actually way worse than just letting the sweatpants happen.

So I re-recorded it.

I sat in a police station parking lot (seriously I’m kind of living out of my car, but more on that next week) and got real fired up and had yet another pow-wow into my computer. This time it was real. This time it was about why being real is the way through.

We’re not going to dance around our problems. We’re not going to avoid them and pretend they aren’t there. We’re going to be real and look at them.

And that’s how this season is going to go.

I’m going to commit to showing up and being real. And I hope you can commit to the same for the space of the 20-40 minutes I spend with you each week.
