one-year anniversary

It’s my one-year anniversary!

It’s been a whole year of making podcasts, of chatting with you online, and of stepping into my role as a sharer of the light. In short, thank you for being here with me.

I really had no idea what I was getting into last November when I recorded a short talk that turned into the first episode of my now weekly podcast. In this past year, I’ve basically built the wheels on a moving vehicle… figuring out how to record, interview, post, edit, design, brand this thing, and all the while my listeners have grown from basically my parents to actual thousands of people. I am sort of in awe of it all.

I say all this to give to you as an example. Do the thing. Do the freaking thing you want to do, even if (especially if) you don’t know how. You just show up one day at a time.

There’s not going to be a “right time” in your life, when things are “calm enough” to start. Since I started this podcast, I’ve worked 3 different jobs, lived in 4+ different places, gone through 6 different kinds of work-out routines, dated (seriously and not) different people, and traveled around the country. I’ve felt completely excited and also completely apathetic about my life at varying times, and didn’t always want to sit down to record a podcast every week.

A lot can happen in a year, but you won’t know what’s possible unless you just start showing up.

So, 43 episodes later, here we are! This week’s episode is one part ‘Thank-You,’ and other parts a review of the major themes that have seemed to come up on my podcast, regardless of topic. The themes are:

  • Witness. You can’t fix your stuff until you know it’s there. So, eyes open, start paying attention to the stories you tell yourself about the world (and yourself) and start listening to the words in your internal monologue.
  • Be intentional and clear. Setting intentions for a day or month or year (or interview or date or workout) is a radically life-changing practice. The more intentional we are, the more we pay attention.
  • Trust and just go with it. Life is an experiment and you are the scientist. Sometimes, your beaker is going to explode or your Bunsen burner isn’t going to work (yep, definitely not a scientist). That’s not a good reason to throw in the towel. Trust the process and keep at it. It’ll come together in time.

And finally, I just want to offer my profound gratitude and thanks to every single one of you. You’ve all impacted my journey and this Tribe in different ways, and I want you to know what a privilege it is to share space with you each week. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
