new year’s resolutions

What a year it’s been. I’ve done more in-the-trenches learning this year than I have in a long, long time. I think 2017 was some real as, Type II fun: not fun while it was happening, but from where I stand today, it was an epic one.

More than anything, I learned lessons.

– I know how to say what I mean and ask for what I want. I know what I mean and what I want. I know how to have tough conversations and I value their place in my life.

– I know the preciousness of my energy. And I know what can happen if I push too hard for too long, without caring for myself.

– I developed more empathy for people in conflict situations, who feel they are in an untenable position. I am growing my capacity to feel for people on different sides by remembering what it feels like to think you are a victim.

– I am also closer to knowing why I am here on this planet than I ever have been before. It’s something to do with entering into chaos, inviting it towards its better self. And specifically the chaos of people, and their relationships, and the inevitable conflicts that arise.

And some things emerged out of this year as focus points moving forward: caring for myself & loving myself, and detaching from my addiction to being likable.

I know it’s hard to turn around and look at this year with joy and genuine gratitude, but I know that that is my ticket to peace. And to growth. The more time I spend in the pressure, the closer I get to my diamond. I feel quite like a diamond right now, and I plan to enjoy that.
