how to do mornings

You know that feeling after you’ve been to a good concert, or an inspirational talk, or a nice session with your therapist, or a promising first date, or… okay you get the picture.

It’s a feeling that says: “Wow. Things are actually okay. Life is okay. I think I can do things. I am going to keep moving in a forward direction. Yes.”

That’s actually possible on a daily basis.

And your best gateway to it is your morning practice.

Morning-haters, I hear you. You haven’t gotten along well for years, and now I’m asking you to use the morning as a launch-pad to generosity and joy for your whole day?! How dare I???

Well. It’s because mornings matter. The gift we do or do not give ourselves each morning can determine whether we approach our day with patience and acceptance and love, or resentment and judgment and frustration. It affects our ability to set healthy boundaries, and to respond to the inevitable bumps of life.

Think about it this way: If a machine existed that you could plug into for 5 minutes each morning and it could help you get your mindset right for the rest of the day, you would NEVER MISS A MORNING.

So why are you leaving so much on the table?

Now that I have your attention, listen to this week’s podcast. I talk through the importance of mornings and give about 10 minutes worth of suggestions and ideas for ways to start your day. (I mention this meditation and this playlist.)

Give yourself 5 minutes in the morning to remember why you get up every day. Reconnect to your own meaning of life, and to your source of power. (Maybe it’s God. Maybe it’s your own soul. Maybe it’s your dog. I do not know.) Let that be the light that illuminates the adventure that is the rest of your day.
