addiction and recovery (w/ Ryan Lewis)

A few months ago, I saw a college friend link to an article about a mutual friend of ours– “Sweat it out: Recovering addict finds new life as a Chicago SoulCycle instructor.” Naturally, I was curious. I clicked through and sat with tears in my eyes, inspired by Ryan Lewis.

Life is totally confusing. And hard. And often depressing, and lonely, and uncomfortable. Sometimes we numb out. We choose any given avenue: Netflix, food, sex, booze, cocaine… But at what point does your pain relief become a problem? I don’t know.

So for this week’s podcast, I interviewed Ryan Lewis (a friend of mine from New York University) about his addiction to cocaine and his recovery. His is a story of honesty, courage, and grace. We don’t have a lot of answers, but we do know that opening up conversations is usually a pretty good place to start.

Please listen this week, if only for the possibility that you pass it on to someone who needs it.

Some things we talked about:
